2,870,972,200 kilometers (1,783,939,400 miles)
84.02 Earth years (30,687.2 Earth days)
Distinguishing features: Now revealed as a dynamic world with some of the brightest clouds in the outer solar system and 11 rings. The first planet found with the aid of a telescope, Uranus was discovered in 1781 by astronomer William Herschel. The seventh planet from the Sun is so distant that it takes 84 years to complete one orbit.
Uranus’ rotation axis is nearly horizontal as though Uranus has been knocked on its side, this unusual orientation may be the result of a collision with a planet-sized body early in the planet’s history, which apparently radically changed Uranus’ rotation. Additionally, while magnetic fields are typically in alignment with a planet’s rotation, Uranus’ magnetic field is tipped over: instead of aligning along the rotational axis, the magnetic axis is tilted nearly 60 degrees from the planet’s axis of rotation, and is also offset from the center of the planet by one-third of the planet’s radius. Unlike the magnetic fields of Earth, Jupiter, and Saturn, which can be thought of as acting like dipole bar magnets, the fields of Uranus (and Neptune also) are very irregular. Uranus’ magnetic field is about 48 times more powerful than Earth’s.
Zodiac Sign Rulership: Aquarius
The Outer planets: The planets beyond Saturn:- Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, move through the signs so slowly that the sign positions of these planets refer more to the generation of which we are a part, rather than individual characteristics. It is the house position that shows where we will meet with the principles expressed by these planets in our lives. The aspects of these planets to the personal planets indicate our degree of attunement to the principles they represent.
The trans-Saturnian planets cannot be seen without the aid of a telescope. Therefore they represent powerful forces that are beyond conscious control. These planets connect us with forces and levels of reality beyond our experience as individual human beings. They do this by breaking down the boundaries of the ego (symbolised by Saturn), to allow the inflow of higher ideals and goals into our ego-centred minds. This can often mean the total disruption or destruction of our existing lives, goals, or outer and inner structures in order to make this possible.
Uranus is the first of the trans-Saturnian planets. It cannot be seen with the naked eye and was discovered in 1781 during the period of the American and French revolutions. It’s discovery was made possible by the invention of the telescope, a development that has led to radical changes in our knowledge of the universe and our place in it.
In the birth chart then, Uranus represents the force for revolutionary change, the breaking from tradition, and inventiveness and experimentation. As one of the three planets that cannot be seen with the unaided eye, Uranus represents a force over which we have little or no conscious control. On an individual level, Uranus indicates our degree of independence and demand for personal freedom. If well aspected it gives us originality and an attunement to truth that goes beyond the logic of Mercury. If we refuse to express the energy of Uranus within us, preferring to cling to the traditions and limitations of Saturn, then Uranus may manifest as disruptions and sudden changes in our immediate environment, sometimes disrupting our lives completely and forcing us to make needed changes. If the energy of Uranus is expressed negatively, it can lead to wilfulness, impatience and needless rebellion, the rebel without a cause.
Uranus’ sign position of in the chart shows where we most feel the need for freedom and independence and the need to experiment with new ideas and ways of living. Conversely, it is the area where we can cause the most disruption and needless change.
Uranus represents the expression of your need for freedom and independence and the way you choose to experiment with life. Uranus zodiac sign indicates the motivation behind your future dreams.
If you do not know your Uranus Sign find out with your Soul Profile
You belong to a generation . . .
(born during the late 1920’s to mid 1930’s) whose intention is to re-assert a most basic human right: the freedom to do what you want to do. Such a raw and primary impulse can give rise to the extremes of being obstreperous and reactionary at one end of the scale and at the other end, having the courage and stamina to stick to your guns as you fight to establish some new beginning in some field of human effort.
You belong to a generation . . .
(born during the mid 1930’s to early 1940’s) whose intention is to reform attitudes to money and the material side of life generally. You discover that your sense of freedom and the means of promoting new ideas are greatly inhibited by your attachment to material considerations. On the other hand though, you invent new means of making money in order to further revolutionary concepts and practices. Like the World War that marks this generation, it is evident in your life that old forms have to be destroyed in order to build anew.
You belong to a generation . . .
(born during the early to late 1940’s) whose intention is to reform thinking patterns and the use of the written and spoken word, or to institute social change through the use of the written and spoken word. Your generation also aims to bring the fruits of science, technology and metaphysics into the everyday sphere of human activity.
You belong to a generation . . .
(born during the late 1940’s to mid 1950’s) whose intention was to reform attitudes towards security and family values so this time heralded the breaking up of the traditional family unit, the freeing from unwanted motherhood or enabling the mother to be freer and the freedom from grim household chores thanks to technology.
All this has had far reaching effects upon your idea of what life has to offer. Significantly, this includes experiencing both the confusion and the pleasure that comes with having a greater sense of choice. For example, sexual roles and family duties are no longer so clearly defined.
You belong to a generation . . .
(born between the mid 1950’s and early 1960’s) whose intention was to reform attitudes towards romantic involvement and creative self-expression so this led to much experimentation in these areas of life. There is a stubbornness here, marked by an insistence upon going your own way on the one hand and a strong sense of being in a distinctive kind of creative accord with your peers on the other. You sow the seeds of self-rule.
You belong to a generation . . .
(born during the late 1960’s to mid 1970’s) whose intention was to reform attitudes towards marriage, relating and social conduct in general. If you have a strong degree of social conscience, you will want to find some way of changing the laws and principles that guide and govern the people. Your generation is alive to the fact – or can be easily awakened to it – that a single powerful idea can change the face of society, or even the world.

You belong to a generation . . .
(born during the mid 1970’s to early 1980’s) whose intention was to reform attitudes towards sexuality and intimacy, as well as other kinds of hidden power. During this period these elements of life started to reach a critical state, be it the advent of dangerously defiant sexual freedom or a nuclear power station blowing up. Mt St Helens, the volcano in Washington DC, also blew its top in 1980. Because of all this your generation is basically having to wake up to what power actually is.
You belong to a generation . . .
(born during the first five years of the twentieth century or the early to late 1980’s) whose intention was to reform religious, legal, cultural and educational attitudes. As an individual you could either be on the receiving end, in that you fall foul of and rebel against these aspects of life as you encounter them, or (and possibly as a consequence of this) you seek to force changes in one or more of these areas. Whether you are conscious of it or not, a recognition of universal laws and the freedom to believe in what you wish is what fires your own convictions.
You belong to a generation . . .
(born between 1905 and 1912, or during the late 1980’s to mid 1990’s) whose intention was, or is, to reform business and governmental practices. There is an inherent danger of an apparently double standard with your generation because the loosening of authority’s grip on the status quo can undermine one’s own position (witness Mikhail Gorbachev’s demise during the latter period). In other words, you are caught with having to create a balance between conserving old and trusted standards, and introducing new and potentially disruptive ones.
You belong to a generation . . .
(born between 1912 and 1920, or during the late 1990’s to the first years of the twenty-first century) whose intention was, or is, to reform and shed light upon the human condition. This means that the very essence of human nature is what concerns you deep down. Negatively or unconsciously, this could just amount to feeling odd and a bit of a misfit. Positively though, you are aware of the importance of individuality, brother/sisterhood and the essential freedom and inventiveness of the human being.
You belong to a generation . . .
(born during the 1920’s) whose intention was to awaken to the mysteries of life and the unconscious and thereby gain some release from the mundane. By and large however, this was expressed in the rather dissolute and ‘anything goes’ atmosphere into which you were born (the Roaring Twenties). Consequently, unless you have taken definite steps to look at the mystical side of life, you are culturally inclined to avoid facing the music.
